Bay Area Chapter Raises $150+ at Park Fundraiser
Omid for Girls is continuing as strong as ever in our 2026-2027 cycle as we continue to offer online education in English and the maths to disempowered Afghan women. In order to keep this up, the Bay Area chapter held a bake sale at Ortega Park in Sunnyvale to fund the monthly Internet costs our students will need: $10 can fund a month of education for one Afghan woman.
The bake sale offered not only homemade brownies and drinks, from lemonade to coffee, but also hand-made assorted goodie bags and keychains, with others contributing by making flyers and participating in the sale if they couldn’t make anything.
Ortega Park is a beautiful, sunny site for a picnic or a party, and many a family showed up to sip their drinks and chat about life and the situation in Afghanistan. Toddlers learned to count change and struggled to choose between goodie bags and brownies. Some were Church members, others were teachers, and some simply believed that learning and nurturing students is important, and our community met on compassion through our different perspectives.
Our bake sale raised 15 months of education for our students, which we’ll be putting to use by hosting one-to-one weekly customized lessons for them. Our work is never finished and we always appreciate donations to continue to offer our students stable education as well as higher quality lessons tailored to their goals, so watch out for where we next set up camp in the Bay Area…!
